    • Travel Hack: The Perfect Wheeled Underseater

Posted at 2:07 pm by Reservationfortwoplus, on July 5, 2018

As I sit here in the United Terminal of O’Hare, I can’t help but think it is the perfect opportunity to share with you my ultimate travel hack:

      The Samsonite Wheeled Underseater Small

For new moms, this bag is the perfect size to fit a Medela Pump in Style, parts, and Cooler. When I first went back to work, I purchased a Sarah Wells bag, specific for pumping, that was an over the shoulder bag with insulated cooler included. I used it twice before realizing that it was far too heavy to carry around conference floors or lug through the airport. While they are stylish and functional, I highly recommend saving your money and utilizing a wheeled underseater. Your shoulders will thank you!

For frequent travelers, I have yet to find a flight where this bag will not fit on a plane. Hopper flights from Chicago to Detroit, St. Louis, and Minneapolis, it has always fit – even on an ERG 190.

If you have this bag and love it – let me know! Or if you have any other recommendations for frequent travels, please send me a PM or comment.

*Bonus hack – for those traveling out of O’Hare and dealing with frequent delays, the United Club at B6 offers day passes for purchase.

    • New Mom Tip: Use Your Smart Speaker!

Posted at 2:56 am by Reservationfortwoplus, on July 3, 2018

Happy Monday! I hope you had a fantastic beginning to your week. I did, despite the fact that I found myself crying in the office bathroom. No one ever said being a working mom was easy!🤷🏻‍♀️

Transitioning back into work mode on Monday is always the hardest day of my week. While crying in the bathroom certainly is not a normal occurrence for me, and I don’t plan on it happening again, I wanted to share to let any other new working moms out there struggling know that you aren’t the only one!

      ***

For today’s post, I wanted to share a hack that was a life changer for me when my son was first born. It has to do with newborn tracking.

As you probably discovered through your pre-baby research, you will be expected to track your babies dirty diapers, feeding times and duration, and sleeping vs. awake time for your pediatrician. And when you are a new mom, who is on 0 hours of sleep and is struggling to breastfeed or change diapers, tracking can seem like just another thing that you are failing at. If this speaks to you, I am SO glad you are reading this post.

Smart speakers are the answer to your prayers. If you are open to having smart speakers in your home, there are now apps that can track your babies activity through your voice command. When you are half asleep, feeding in the middle of the night, you can simply record the feeding time via voice command, instead of looking for a pen and paper, or trying to time on your phone.

You can get this functionality on either a Google Home or Amazon Alexa. We were an Alexa household, so we added an Echo Dot to my son’s nursery, in addition to the other Alexa’s we already had around the house.

If you have an Amazon Alexa: Enable the HatchBaby Skill

If you have a Google Home: Add the Baby Stats Skill

These apps make it so easy to track your baby’s stats! No more feeling guilty when you walk into your pediatrician’s office without the information they expect upon your arrival. Plus, the speaker can also act as a white noise machine and intercom – which in my opinion justifies the 30-40 dollar price tag. It’s such a quick tip, but one that I wish someone would have told me prior to my son being born.

If you have any questions about the apps, please feel free to pm me or comment and I would be happy to walk you through set up.

    • Welcome to Reservation for Two, Plus a Baby

Posted at 4:24 am by Reservationfortwoplus, on July 2, 2018

Welcome to Reservation for Two, Plus a Baby! This blog will offer insights into my world as a married, full-time working mom of One. I will be posting three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, content ranging anywhere from new-mom hacks to working-mom trials and failures in the 9-5 world.

      A little about me:

I am in my late twenties, living in the City of Chicago with my husband of two years, baby of 10 months, and Shih-Tzu of my entire post-college life. I work full-time for an amazing company in the technology industry, with 60% of my time being spent in their West Loop office and the other 40% spent traveling for business. Outside of my job, I love music, movies, news and most importantly, being a wife to my husband and mom to my son.

So why Reservation for Two, Plus a Baby?

Well for one, it is the most commonly used phrase in our household come the weekends. But really, it is a great sentence that speaks to navigating a new life with a baby. It’s a testament to continuing to get out and live your life to the fullest with your family, and not letting the stresses of being a new parent keep you from doing so.

Also, as an avid reader of many mommy blogs, I was struggling to find one that I could wholly identify with. One that could offer articles on being a working mom, when you work outside of the home and with travel – but wish you could be with your little one 24/7. So if my life sounds a little bit like yours, I would love for you to consider adding Reservation for Two, Plus a Baby to your reading list.

Thank you for reading, and if you are interested, see you tomorrow for Monday’s post!
