    • New Mom Tip: Use Your Smart Speaker!

Posted at 2:56 am by Reservationfortwoplus, on July 3, 2018

Happy Monday! I hope you had a fantastic beginning to your week. I did, despite the fact that I found myself crying in the office bathroom. No one ever said being a working mom was easy!🤷🏻‍♀️

Transitioning back into work mode on Monday is always the hardest day of my week. While crying in the bathroom certainly is not a normal occurrence for me, and I don’t plan on it happening again, I wanted to share to let any other new working moms out there struggling know that you aren’t the only one!

For today’s post, I wanted to share a hack that was a life changer for me when my son was first born. It has to do with newborn tracking.

As you probably discovered through your pre-baby research, you will be expected to track your babies dirty diapers, feeding times and duration, and sleeping vs. awake time for your pediatrician. And when you are a new mom, who is on 0 hours of sleep and is struggling to breastfeed or change diapers, tracking can seem like just another thing that you are failing at. If this speaks to you, I am SO glad you are reading this post.

Smart speakers are the answer to your prayers. If you are open to having smart speakers in your home, there are now apps that can track your babies activity through your voice command. When you are half asleep, feeding in the middle of the night, you can simply record the feeding time via voice command, instead of looking for a pen and paper, or trying to time on your phone.

You can get this functionality on either a Google Home or Amazon Alexa. We were an Alexa household, so we added an Echo Dot to my son’s nursery, in addition to the other Alexa’s we already had around the house.

If you have an Amazon Alexa: Enable the HatchBaby Skill

If you have a Google Home: Add the Baby Stats Skill

These apps make it so easy to track your baby’s stats! No more feeling guilty when you walk into your pediatrician’s office without the information they expect upon your arrival. Plus, the speaker can also act as a white noise machine and intercom – which in my opinion justifies the 30-40 dollar price tag. It’s such a quick tip, but one that I wish someone would have told me prior to my son being born.

If you have any questions about the apps, please feel free to pm me or comment and I would be happy to walk you through set up.
